4 Ways To MAXIMIZE Your Video's ROI

Whether you have 1 or 10 new videos, video production is a big investment; and you want to take full advantage of the service. Here are a couple of way to make the best of them and maximize the ROI on your marketing dollars.
 
#1. EFFICIENCY DURING PRODUCTION
 
I charge for half day, and full day production; which means up to 4 or 8 hours of continuous video services. If a project requires only 1 hour of filming (say, a coupe testimonial interviews), I still charge 4 hours. So, what I recommend my clients is to have plan and prepare to film as much time as possible.
 
If the interviews were done in one hour, then the remaining 3 can be used for b-roll, or maybe and explainer video, or another round of interviews. The idea is to take advantage of the production system already set up and make as many videos as possible.
 
You can then have your original video, plus the option of paying for extra edits to make even more. Paying for editing is always cheaper than for production, so get as much content as you can so you have plenty of material to edit later.

#2. REFORMAT & REPURPOSE
 
Let’s say your videographer finished a 10-minute interview for your website, awesome. But what else could be done with? Actually, a ton of things! You can ask the editor to make a condensed 1-minute version in a 1:1 aspect ratio for social media. You can make a 15 second vertical version for Instagram stories, or a combine it with past videos in a 2-3 montage or ad, or make it part of sales presentation, the possibilities are endless!
 
The point is, once a video is finished, that doesn’t mean you are done. That video (and its corresponding source footage) can be repurposed for many other uses. Yes, you will have to pay for additional editing charges, but again, that is much cheaper than paying for unnecessary production days!

#3. MAKE A VIDEO ARCHIVE
 
When you are delivered a video, don’t just download it into your system’s default folder, post it and forget about it! How will you find it 7 months down the line? In order to properly store, and later find your videos you need an organized video archive.
 
As we covered in our previous article “4 Video Concepts Every Marketer Should Know”, you should have a 1-5 TB drive where you can organize all your source files and final deliverables.
 
I organize all my folders roughly as follows:
 
Client Name > Project Name > A Cam (Source Files) > B Cam (Source Files) > Final Videos.
 
All final deliverables (and samples) are in the “Final Videos” folder, and the A and B Cam folders are source files.

#4. OPTIMIZE FOR YOUTUBE
 
If you intend for you video to be on YouTube (this includes your website if it’s streamed thru a YouTube Link) then there are some guidelines you should follow for maximum effectiveness.
 
If you are only posting it on your website, make sure that:
 
-The video has a quality Thumbnail picture (not a screen short from the video itself!)
-The video is posted into a YouTube account you own or control
 
If you are posting on YouTube for others to find you:
 
-Ensure you title is optimize (start with the first key word of what someone will likely search)
-Ensure you have a quality Thumbnail
-Ensure you have a good description with a link to your website
-Ensure you put appropriate tags
